What You Need

Wireless microphone
Projector + screen or large TV
Buzzer system (or phone app like Kahoot)
Prizes (gift cards, merch, novelty items)
Speaker/sound system
Table and chairs for contestants
Scoreboard (whiteboard or digital)
Camera for content capture

Step-by-Step Guide

1

Choose Your Rounds

Pick 3-4 round formats: trivia, physical challenge, audience vote, rapid fire. Mix knowledge-based and physical/silly rounds.

2

Book a Venue

Large lecture halls, student union ballrooms, or outdoor amphitheaters work best. Need seating for 50+ and space for contestants up front.

3

Recruit Contestants

Get 8-12 contestants who are outgoing and funny. Use a Google Form application — this content is great for pre-event promotion.

4

Promote Hard

Start promoting 5-7 days out. Post contestant intros, teaser clips, and countdown stories. Partner with other orgs for cross-promotion.

5

Set Up the Stage

Arrive 1-2 hours early. Set up the stage area, test AV equipment, brief contestants on rules. Assign a dedicated camera person.

6

Run the Show

Keep energy HIGH. Involve the audience (voting, cheering, audience rounds). Keep rounds to 5-10 minutes max. Award prizes dramatically.

7

Capture Content

Film everything — contestant reactions, crowd shots, key moments. Get at least 3-5 TikTok-worthy clips. Interview winners after.

Promotion Tips

  • Post contestant 'audition' content 5 days before
  • Create a 15-second teaser for TikTok/Reels
  • Partner with 2-3 other campus orgs for cross-promotion
  • Put up flyers in high-traffic dorm and dining areas
  • Post a countdown on Instagram Stories starting 3 days out

Content Capture Tips

Set up one camera at the front capturing contestant reactions and one roaming camera in the audience. The gold is in reactions — surprise, embarrassment, celebration. Film at least 10 short clips and edit the 3 best into TikToks within 24 hours.
