Speed Social
Meet 20 new people in one hour
A structured social mixer where attendees rotate through quick 3-minute conversations with icebreaker prompts. Like speed dating, but for making friends. Low-pressure, high-connection.
What You Need
Step-by-Step Guide
Choose a Venue
Café, study lounge, or outdoor patio with moveable chairs. You need pairs of seats facing each other, spaced so conversations don't overlap too much.
Prepare Prompts
Write 20+ icebreaker questions that are fun, not cringe. Examples: 'What's the most unhinged thing on your phone's camera roll?' or 'What's a hill you'd die on that nobody cares about?'
Set Up Stations
Number each pair of seats. Place one icebreaker prompt card at each station. Set up a visible timer.
Check-In & Name Tags
As people arrive, give them name tags and assign starting seat numbers. Brief them on the format: 3 min per conversation, bell rings, one row rotates.
Run Rounds
Start the timer. Play light background music. Ring a bell or buzzer after 3 minutes. One row stands and shifts one seat to the right. Repeat 10-15 times.
Free Mingle
After rounds end, open it up for free conversation. People will naturally gravitate to the people they clicked with. This is where real connections form.
Promotion Tips
- •Market it as 'make friends without the awkwardness'
- •Post funny icebreaker previews on Stories
- •Partner with freshman-oriented orgs for reach
- •Emphasize 'come alone — that's the point'
Content Capture Tips
Film a montage of different conversations — the laughing, the surprised faces, the awkward but wholesome moments. Interview 3-4 attendees after asking 'who did you click with?' This format creates amazing authentic content.
