An open-mic style talent show where students perform anything — singing, comedy, dance, magic, spoken word, or completely random skills. Judged by audience applause or a panel. Absolute content goldmine.

What You Need

Stage or performance area with good lighting
PA system with microphone(s)
Projector (for acts that need visuals)
Judges table (if using panel format)
Score cards (1-10 paddle style for fun)
Camera setup (tripod + phone at minimum)
Prizes for winner, runner-up, crowd favorite

Step-by-Step Guide

Open Applications

Create a sign-up form 2 weeks before. Ask for: name, act description, any AV needs, time needed (cap at 5 min per act). Aim for 10-15 acts.

Curate the Lineup

Select 10-12 acts that offer variety. Mix serious and silly. Put the strongest acts in the middle and end. Open with something high-energy.

Book a Performance Venue

Auditorium, large classroom, or outdoor stage. You need decent sound and a clear sightline for the audience.

Rehearsal / Sound Check

Run a quick sound check 1-2 hours before. Make sure each act knows their cue and time limit.

Host the Show

Have a charismatic host (the ambassador or a known personality). Keep transitions quick and funny. Use audience voting for the winner.

Capture EVERYTHING

Film every act from start to finish. Also capture audience reactions. The crowd going wild for a surprising act is the content that goes viral.

  • Post performer spotlights and teaser clips leading up to the event
  • Create a 'vote for your favorite' interactive Story
  • Emphasize 'hidden talents' — not just singers and dancers
  • This is a great event to sell out a large venue

Content Capture Tips

A talent show is a content machine. Every act is a potential viral clip. Film reactions of the audience when something unexpected happens. Post individual act clips as a series over the following week.
