Themed Social Mixer

Dress up, show up, link up

40-150 people2-3 hours

A social event built around a fun theme — decades party, jersey night, neon glow, cultural celebration, etc. The theme gives people something to talk about and makes for incredible visual content.

What You Need

Theme-appropriate decorations
Photo booth setup (backdrop + props)
Speaker and music playlist
Themed snacks/drinks (if applicable)
Name tags with a twist (e.g., 'My hot take is...')
Icebreaker activity supplies
Good lighting for photos

Step-by-Step Guide

1

Pick a Theme

Choose something that's easy to dress for and photograph well. Best themes: decades (80s, Y2K), neon/glow, jersey night, cultural celebration, ugly sweater, reality TV characters.

2

Plan 2-3 Structured Activities

Don't just rely on 'mingling.' Plan: a photo booth, a themed game (best dressed contest, trivia related to the theme), and one icebreaker activity.

3

Decorate the Space

Go hard on decorations — they make the content. Even cheap decorations look great in photos with good lighting. Dollar store + Amazon are your friends.

4

Create a Photo Moment

Build a photo booth or backdrop that people WANT to take pictures in front of. This is your organic social media distribution — every photo shared promotes your brand.

5

Run the Event

Welcome everyone, explain the vibe, start with the icebreaker, then let the music and socializing flow. Run the best-dressed contest midway through.

Promotion Tips

  • The theme IS the promotion — it gives people a reason to come
  • Post 'outfit inspo' content leading up to the event
  • Create a shareable event graphic with the theme
  • FOMO content after: 'you missed THIS' posts drive future attendance

Content Capture Tips

Photo booth content is gold. Film a montage of people arriving in their outfits. Capture the best-dressed competition. The visual variety from themed outfits makes every photo interesting.
